Located approximately 60km north-west of Sydney is the Macquarie Town of Pitt Town, named after English Prime Minister William Pitt. Established by the then Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1810, the township overlooks to river flood plains trailing down to the Hawkesbury River. This is a town just to stroll through at a slow pace.

See the 1857 St James Church, designed by Edmund Blackett, and opposite it is Scots Church, built in 1862. The streets are dotted with 19th century slab and weatherboard houses and a few stately homes such as Bona Vista with its pine tree lined drive. Every visit to this wonderful town must include a stop at the Macquarie Arms pub which dates to the 1850s.
