DIVA-STATING JAZZ IN THE HILLZ


The annual Jazz in The Hillz Winter Concert Series continues to attract the biggest names on the Australian jazz scene. Gospel diva, Carol Ralph is this year joined by Adelaide’s Gail Kingston for two concerts in the magnificent Celebrity Room of the Dural Country Club.

CONCERT 1 – CAROL RALPH and the SOUND OF NEW ORLEANS BAND
SUNDAY 13 JULY

Carol Ralph returns for her sixth year at the Jazz in The Hillz Winter Concert Series on Sunday 13 July.

Carol, widely acclaimed as Sydney’s best female jazz/gospel singer, has performed internationally and is in great demand at jazz festivals around Australia. She has performed in every Winter Concert Series since Jazz in The Hillz began in 2000. She will entice the crowd with three hours of traditional jazz classics, mesmerising gospel and swing.

Carol always chooses some of Australia’s most notable jazz musicians for her Spirit of New Orleans Band. Joining Carol Ralph will be Bob Henderson (trumpet), Paul Furness (reeds), Chris Tapperell (piano), Geoff Holden (banjo), Richard Edser (bass) and drummer Viv Carter.

CONCERT 2 GAIL KINGSTON and the BRIDGE CITY JAZZ BAND
SUNDAY 17 August

Direct from Adelaide, Gail Kingston will sure wow the audience at the Winter Concert Series for on Sunday 17 August.

Gail is known on the jazz circuit for her passion for traditional and classic jazz. She has performed at major jazz festivals around Australia, including the Gold Coast, Kyneton and Moe festivals. She is regularly featured on ABC Radio National and ABC Classic FM, particularly for her “Hot Gospel” performance at the Gold Coast Jazz Festival.

Gail fell into Jazz while checking out the Australian music scene after working in the UK. Prior to that, she has performed as a cabaret singer in London nightclubs, sung with college choirs performing Mozart and even fronted a heavy rock band. Her remarkable repertoire spans folk, country, pop, rock, light opera, musicals and classical.

Gail will perform with the Bridge City Jazz Band comprising Colin Davies (bass), Adrian Ford (trombone), Eric Holroyd (trumpet), Colin Beal (sax/clarinet), Rachel Hamilton (piano), Dennis Quinlan (banjo) and Jim Morrell (drums).

ABOUT THE CONCERTS

Both concerts commence at 3.00pm in the Celebrity Room of Dural Country Club – 662 Old Northern Road, Dural.  The venue has superior acoustics and a great sized dance floor in front of the stage.  Drinks are available at Club prices and the venue also offers a coffee shop and brassiere for after the show.

Tickets cost $20 adults or $17 concession.  Bookings are recommended as previous concert have sold out.  Proceeds go towards the restoration and maintenance of historic Roughley House (circa 1856) at Dural.
