SCOTTISH HIGHLAND GATHERING

The sound of pipers will echo throughout Sydney's Hills District for the annual gathering of the Clans at Castle Hill Showground.

Highland Dance Championships


A huge family entertainment event with everything Scottish! proudly supported by Sydney Hills Tourism / Baulkham Hills Shire Council.

* See the lasses in the 2008 NSW State Highland Dancing Championships
* Hear Australia's best at the 2008 Australian Pipe Band & South Pacific Pipe Band Championships
* Watch the big men undertake feats of strength like Throwing the Hammer, Tossing the Caber and Weight Over the Bar

There is something to keep the family busy all day including:

* The Haggis Hurl
* Feats of Strength
* Scottish Country Dancing
* Dog Displays
* Tug-o-war
* Marching Bands
* Mini Golf
* Children's races
* Scottish Stalls
* Clan Tents
* Food and Drinks

The day concludes with the Massed Pipe Bands marching and performing around the Showground with powerful music to make the hairs on your neck stand on end. An event not to be missed.


PROGRAM OF EVENTS

9.00am - State Highland Dancing Competition commences

9.30am - NSW Pipe Band Championships commence

10.45am - Traditional Highland Feats of Strength - The Light Hammer & the Heavy Hammer

11.30am - Official Opening of the Gathering by Chieftan of the Day, Her Ladyship Marie Bashir AC, Governor of NSW, will be joined by Baulkham Hills Shire Council Mayor, Clr Sonya Phillips, British Consul General, Mr Tim Holmes and his wife Carin Holmes, NSW Police Commissioner Ken Moroney and his wife Beverley Moroney, Federal MP For Mitchell, Mr Allan Cadman. The Hills District Pipe Band will welcome the official party.

11.50am - Drum Majors Contest (solo)

12.00noon - Display of Scottish Country & Celtic Dancing

12.15pm - Feats of Strength - Light Stone & Heavy Stone

1.00pm - Display of Scottish Country & Celtic Dancing

1.30pm - Children's novelty races

2.00pm - Tug-O-War

2.30pm - Feats of Strength - Australian Caber & Braemar Caber Tossing

3.00pm - Feats of Strength - Weight over the Bar

3.45pm - Bundanoon Stones

4.30pm - Massed Pipe Bands - over 300 pipers performing together, an experience not to be missed. Concludes with the presentation of trophies and Lone Piper performing Auld Lang Syne.


HOW TO GET THERE
Castle Hill Showground is located on the corner of Showground and Carrington Roads, Castle Hill. Entry is via Doran Drive which is off Carrington Road. Signs wilbe displayed on the day. PARKING IS FREE!

By Public Transport
Bus services operate from both Castle Hill Shops (outside David Jones in Old Castle Hill Road) and Parramatta Station.
From Castle Hill Shops - every hour from 7.47am to 5.47pm.
From Parramatta Station - every hour from 7.40am to 5.40pm.
