The decision has been made to extend the deadline on the Southlands Breakthrough Award to the new closing date of 12 December 2016.

By extending the date there will be a greater opportunity for emerging artists in the west, from Parramatta to Orange to finalise their submissions!

Penrith Performing & Visual Arts (PP&VA) together with sponsor Southlands are proud to offer three emerging artists from the greater west the chance to share in a $15,000 Breakthrough Award to support the development of a new piece of creative art.

The inaugural Breakthrough Award, sponsored by Southlands is an investment in emerging artists and a commitment to the arts through a connection with PP&VA.

$5,000 each will be offered to three artists who can show they are ready to take the next step in their creative practice in the area of music, visual arts, theatre or a combination of these.

“Southlands is proud to be able to provide this investment in emerging artists in this region. We know there is a lot of talent out there and are keen to provide practical support to ensure it can develop” said Vivien Encel, Owner's Representative - Southlands Shopping Centre.

This is an opportunity for emerging artists– an artist within their first five years of practice - to develop a new idea, concept, draft, composition, recording, design or outcome for a project. The sky is the limit!

“We are very excited by the potential of this Award as a catalyst for artistic practice in our region, “said Hania Radvan, CEO of PP&VA. “Linking the resources of a professional arts organisation to funds and an early career artist is an essential and simple recipe for success”.

Along with the Breakthrough Award, PP&VA will be eager to support award recipients in any way possible as valuable opportunities arise for creative and professional mentoring and access to work from our spaces at The Joan and Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest.

Don’t miss an opportunity to advance your artistic practice at a critical juncture in your emerging career!

In less than 1000 words, tell us how your project is important in your development as an artist, and why it will resonate with your local community and continue to enliven community cultural life.

Submissions for the Breakthrough Award close Monday 12 December 5pm.
