There are five car ferries which make crossing the Hawkesbury Region's waterways a peaceful, relaxing encounter. But don't just think they are for cars; they make a great stopping point whilst walking or cycling around the region.
The Sackville Ferry crosses the Hawkesbury River just north of Sackville on the Sackville Road. It operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and is only closed for maintenance on the 1st Wednesday of each month from 12.45pm till 3.00pm. This ferry connects the roads linking Windsor and Wisemans Ferry. Trip duration: three minutes (please allow up to 10 minutes waiting time).
The Lower Portland Ferry crosses the water at the junction of the Hawkesbury and Colo Rivers at Lower Portland and links River Road to West Portland Road. It operates 7 days per week from 5am to midnight and is only closed for maintenance on the 1st Wednesday of each month from 9.00am till 11.00am.
The Webbs Creek Ferry at Wisemans Ferry crosses the Hawkesbury River just south of the junction of the Macdonald River. It operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and is only closed for maintenance on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 9.30am till 12.00pm. This ferry begins your round trip to historic St Albans, following the scenic path of the Macdonald River. Trip duration: five minutes (please allow up to 15 minutes waiting time).
The Wisemans Ferry crosses the Hawkesbury River just east of the junction of the Macdonald River at the village of Wisemans Ferry. It operates 24 hours, 7 days per week. During regular maintenance a second ferry operates so there is no closure time. Your journey can begin or end here taking you along the northern shores of the Hawkesbury River to Spencer and Mangrove Mountain. Bushwalkers keen on the trek up Devine's Hill and the Great North Road should cross the river at this point. This was the first ferry crossing on the Hawkesbury River started in 1827 by Solomon Wiseman whom this town is named after. Trip duration: four minutes (please allow up to 10 minutes waiting time).
The Berowra Waters Ferry crosses Berowra Creek at Berowra Waters on Bay Road (Tourist Drive 11). It operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and is only closed for maintenance on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 12.00pm till 2.30pm. Trip duration: three minutes (please allow up to 10 minutes waiting time).
