Thu 26 Nov - Fri 23 Apr - ‘Returned to Glory’ Recycled Art Competition 2010

Details: More than $5,500 is up for grabs in Hornsby Shire Council’s ‘Returned to Glory’ Recycled Art Competition 2010, which celebrates the re-use of materials through art.
Artists can win prizes of up to $1,000 for their artwork, which must be made out of pre-used human-made materials.
Categories
Entries will be accepted in the following categories: 3D/sculpture art; functional art; wearable art; mixed media (wall mounted); and youth (ages up to 24 years). Artists must be residents of Hornsby Shire or members of Hornsby Art Society.
Exhibition
An exhibition of the best entries will take place at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre in Hornsby from Wednesday 2 June to Sunday 20 June 2010.

Come along to one of our activities and uncover the beauty of Cumberland State Forest, a 40 hectare oasis of green in Sydney's north-western suburbs. Explore scenic walking trails, enjoy a family picnic or cook up a tasty bush barbecue. A cafe, native plant nursery, information centre and forest shop retailing unique giftware, maps and books are also on-site. Sat 13 Mar - Free guided walk - Steele Bridge

Details: This hilly walk follows the foot track and fire trail that leads down to the Steele Military Bridge which was installed in 1964-65 to provide access to fire-fighting vehicles from Hornsby to Dural.
After reaching the bridge the walk follows the Great North Walk back to Fish Ponds and then returns to Stewart Ave by the steep track to Manor Rd, passing the historic Mt Wilga. Bring plenty to drink and a snack for a long rest before the return walk out of the valley for this challenging 4 hour walk all up.

A section of the Pacific Highway will be closed for this event. The community are encouraged to catch public transport.
